Lise Swenson : Me and my iPhone – photography - Summer 2010  

“Me and my iPhone” is the culmination of Lise Swenson's yearlong reflection on what it is to be 50.  On her birthday, August 11th of last year, she started a daily blog using the departure point of “today I am 50." Entitled Fuck It I’m 50,  wwwfuckitim50.com. Swenson also took iPhone photos as a visual companion to her blog. Now Swenson adds a new dimension to her venture as she wraps up her one year of blogging by creating a 23-foot long text image installation that graphs her one-year journey. She will also be mounting, salon style, 100+ photos culled from the over 5,500 she has taken as the visual companion to her blogging.

Opening Reception Thursday, July 29nd, 6-9pm
Personal Prose Night Swenson, along with readings from other personal prose writers, will read excerpts from her blog. Wednesday, August 25th, 7:30-9:30, donation at the door and no host bar.
Swenson Film Retrospective Friday, September 10th, 8-10, donation at the door and no host bar.

The Artist: Lise Swenson, has been involved in the media arts in the Bay Area since the early 1980s. As a media artist she creates documentaries, experimental documentaries, feature length fiction and short experimental video art works. www.liseswenson.com

Swenson also creates multi-monitor and site specific video installation. In 1984 she co-founded ATA, (Artists’ Television Access), a non-profit media arts access and education facility and in 1995 she founded TILT (Teaching Intermedia Literacy Tools), a nonprofit that works within school programs and community organizations to teach the fundamentals of media literacy and moviemaking.

Swenson’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and has received numerous awards and grants. She was the recipient of a Creative Work Fund grant which helped to seed the creation of Mission Movie, her first feature length award winning narrative film. She also attended the 2007 Sundance Film Festival where she represented Lynn Hershman Leeson’s critically acclaimed hybrid documentary Strange Culture as Producer and Assistant Director. Swenson’s current projects include the personal documentary, An Unexamined Life, as well as a feature film, Saltwater, www.saltwaterthemovie.com, slated to begin production in 2011.
